A distinctive and delicious brown sauce which combines sweet, sour and spicy. No full English breakfast isn't complete without it.
Brown sauce as a product has been a staple British condiment since its invention by a Nottingham greengrocer, Frederick Gibson Garten, in the late 1800s. His original concotion was an exotic mix of tamarind, dates and molases. He claiming that it was served in the canteen of the House of Commons and, true or not, his brown sauce grew rapidly in popularity. In 1895 he trademarked it as 'HP Sauce'. The fact that it is now globally distributed and still hugely popular as a style of sauce is a testament to his marketing skills.
This Cornish version is still based on tamarind and black treacle, but with a few other natural ingredients that make it a unique and delicious variation on Mr Garten's original. All this with no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives.
