The Story
The Spierings family moved from the Netherlands in 1998 to start dairy farming at Lanreath in Cornwall, but after years of falling milk prices Joost and Annemarie Spierings decided to sell the business. When their 19 year old son, Giel, came home from college to a ‘For Sale’ sign on the farm gate in 2012, he decided he would try to make the business viable by diversifying the farm through the production of Cornish Gouda Cheese, After learning the traditional techniques back in Holland, Giel set up the Cornish Gouda Co and used the milk from the family’s pedigree herd to develop this award winning cheese.
